A return statement ignores all statements after it, correct? for example:
bool function
{
x = 1;
return 0;
x = 2;
}

x will equal only 1?

Yes.
The return statement returns control to the calling function. So the code after the return won't be executed and will be removed by an optimizing compiler as part of the "dead code elimination".
