XNA Real Time Sound Volume / VU Meter?

In XNA / XACT is there a way of reading the volume of a sound in real time as it plays? I want to create a VU meter for a sound file. The sound file changes pitch in real time which is working, but how do I measure its volume in real time (like a VU meter)? Thanks!
