OpenGL bitmap in opengl and transparence

Hy , i work around the textures in opengl and i would ask what are the betters formats for bitmap bmp,tga,gif? thanks

gifs I believe are copywrited, so being able to use it would require some money I believe.

Bitmaps do not have an alpha layer in it's format so supporting transparency would require some re-writing of that bitmap.

Targa files support transparency ( they have an alpha layer/value in them ) and they're quite simple to use and allow detail.

So of the three, go with Targa ( .tga )

There is no copyright on gif. There was a copyright on the compression algorithm used (LZW) in gif but that expired many years ago.
