Question on scene management

hello pips, Ive been wondering if how did the scene/map on games like Xmen legends and diablo 3 are handled? What i meant is how did the map on these games were implemented? Is this some kind of an Octree/Quadtree, BSP, etc? Regarding Outdoor implementation, i understand how it is implemented thru various terrain implementation such as Quadtree, Geomipmapping, etc. but Im confused during Indoor maps using 3rd person-Bird's eye view similar to these set of games, Is this similar to indoor First person or 3rd person implementation? For this type of games, can you guys provide an idea on how these are implemented?
