I'm having trouble with a portion of the game I'm working on- when I click on something(like a button), I have it do something. The way most things work, and a better way to do it would be to say "if the mouse clicked on the button, then unclicked on the button, do this". Is there any built in way in directX to do this, or do I have to create my own functions to remember where the mouse had been clicked, and do an action when the mouse has been clicked? Thank you

Don't do that. You shouldn't be using DirectInput at all for this sort of thing. However, for DirectInput or window messages, you'll have to do this yourself. Or just perform the action when the button is initially clicked, not when the mouse button is released.
