Eclipse / cdt can't view strings

I just found out how bad eclipse is for developing on c++. Apparently, you can't even view strings properly in the variables window when debugging! char sz[] -> is displayed as an array of characters, while char* sz -> can only view first variable. This makes it impossible to view data in string classes (i.e stl:string) I think the problem is that there is no easy way to mod the debugger like the autoexp.dat file in visual studio
