Can I group the points in a texture with shader 4.0.

Can I group the points in a texture with shader 4.0. The grouping likes k-means clustering. Can the shader 4.0 implement k-means clustering or other grouping algorithms? [Edited by - akira32 on July 4, 2008 5:05:07 AM]

By 'grouping' do you mean a many:one mapping? It's quite common to have a pixel shader that gathers a group of neighbouring pixels and processes them to get a single output.

The big limitation with pixel shaders is the scatter-write where you'd want to write to arbitrary pixels in the output (currently the PS only provides this as read-only information). If the algorithms you have in mind require so called scatter-writes then you'll have trouble - not necessarily impossible, but definitely not intuitive [wink]
