Hi, Does any body know how to take a lets say a 2048 X 512 image and cut it up to make 6 seperate textures for a sky box. Is there a Free tool out there that can do it and allow for commercial use, as use the texture you cut with the tool in a game. Thanks Steve

You can use Paint. It's not free but it comes with Windows, and the textures you end up with can certainly be used "royalty-free." [smile]

Seriously:

You can cut up a texture any way you want to, but, for a sky-box, it takes a special texture. You can't just use any image you run across. A six-sided skybox has textures representing 6 directions in space. There are, perhaps, 360 degree fisheye panarama images that could be used but a "normal" image would only provide 2 (maybe) or 3 (doubtful) good direction views.

Another possibility, rather than cutting up an image, is to take 6 views and combine them into a single texture in the shape of an "unfolded" box and set the texture coordinates appropriately in the skybox mesh or quads.

I was wanting to use sky dome images for the box.
I was looking for real sky box images but I'm not
having any luck, there is a good amount of dome images
around but not the seperate ones.
I just want to keep it simple and use the 6 image way
and not use cube mapping.

Do you know of any good real sky box textures?
