Using opengl blending and depthbuffer. Must I draw the front images last?

Currently I'm using blending. I draw the front images last else the blending doesn't work right, because I've also got the depthfunc enabled. Is there any way to let opengl sort out all depth items on it's own?

I recommend that you read this, especially the section "Three-Dimensional Blending with the Depth Buffer".
