SDL_gfx, rotozoomSurface and transparency

Hello, So I was trying to make an image that would expand while becoming gradually more transparent using a combination of rotozoomSurface and SDL_SetAlpha. However, if I used SetAlpha on the surface after rotozooming it, it wouldn't be effected, and if I used SetAlpha on the surface before rotozooming, it would change become darker without becoming trasparent. What do you think the issue is here? - Thanks.
