About Matrixes and 2D XNA

I'm making a 2D game engine in XNA and I'm using 4x4 matrices to get the job of translating and rotating objects around(exluding the z-axis of course). What I'm wondering is which elements in the matrix represent rotation of which axes because I cant seem to access the rotation of a matrix through a function or property that is already provided by XNA.
