Abaut D3DLOCK

I have read DirectX SDK documentation abaut D3DLOCK, but I still feel like I dont understand it. Is there some more information abaut it somewhere?, internet, books, that explain more. I would like a little more low level, maybe some examples. BTW is this done same in DX10?
