Efficient Particle Rendering

due to the conversation in my last thread, I am rendering engine exhaust as a cloud of point particles which is supposed to be using point sprites for increased speed. This, however, doesn't seem to work. Could someone direct me as to how to use GL_ARB_POINT_SPRITE properly hopefully on a reasonable array of hardware. If you don't think point sprites are the best option, feel free to suggest whatever you like so long as you can provide examples of how its used. I'd like to draw this particle cloud as fast as is practicable. Thanks, as always, for all the help! [Edited by - medevilenemy on July 22, 2008 7:43:42 PM]
