What about tilebase or something?

So first I apologize for being a complete idiot. Second, I made a stupid "game" if you call it that, with a kangaroo that jumps and moves left and right. It's kind of like Mario now in that when you move right the background scrolls blah blah blah not relevant. So I kinda, sorta, not really, know what tile maps or whatever are. How do I make them? load them? use them? I'm really clueless and I can't find a damn tutorial that suits my needs. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

Have you checked out GameDev's articles? This section; Isometric and Tile-based Games, might have what you want.

I'd also suggest reading 'Jump 'n' Run, even though it's in C++ and SDL. The tutorial teaches the concept more than it teaches SDL, and despite the fact that the code is in C++, you can still see what's going on.
