I am currently searching for a tutorial on opengl about model mesh importing other than .md2 files on account many wikis said they are not good for a prolonged period of time(also blender.org). I search and come up with nothing and have not seen a book yet on said tutorial. Do you have any recommendations or where I can search to find a tutorial on loading meshes? Thanks

loading meshes other than .md2 files ? 3ds ? md5 ?
A useful site for some of your file type related needs.

Also, nehe has a tutorial on loading milkshape models.

Oh, and did these people happen to go into why .md2 files are bad? They have some problems, but they are a sufficiently simple format to have some purposes as well. Pretty much all the .md* formats are pretty parser-friendly.
The quote was from here
http://gpwiki.org/index.php/MD2

The loss of vertex precision is noticeable when animating the model, the shape wobbles as it moves. Therefore the format isn't the best if your model is going to be close to the viewer for long periods.

Is md2 the best bet as a model loader? Sorry not that familiar with custom model importers.
