FILE *file = fopen("mmorpgdata.txt","w");
if(file) {
char *playernickname = "[GM]Admin\n";
fwrite(playernickname,strlen(playernickname),1,file);
fclose(file);

I think ferdekk was pulling your leg max.

You create the server just like you would any other application, a quick google search for "<insert the language you're using here> sockets" should get you started.

MySQL is a database so you shouldn't use it by itself for your server, (Your server can use MySQL to store things such as account information etc)

For information about using mysql you can simply google "<insert language here again> mysql"

You can learn a lot about this by looking through some mud source code.

I agree. You should start by looking through some MUD code, and write your own small MUD server before even thinking about your current plans. The article series "MUD Pies" here on gamedev is an excellent start (clicky).

I suggest you read through the Forum FAQ. It contains a number of links, including the answer to question 0, which I strongly suggest you consider before you embark on this project.
