c++ beep

hi. we have all played leisure suit larry. in the older versions all the sounds are all beeps played directly from the sound card. also the sounds have different pitches allowing a song to be made. i was woundering how the programer(al lowe) was able to do that in c++. if someone could give me a code of this being done and tell me how i can use it to make beeps and change the pitches. thx ps. im not talking about \a.

You can do more or less what they did -- they wrote, probably in C or assembly, directly to the sound hardware devices. You can write, in C++, directly to a sound API. C++ itself doesn't have built-in functionality for this, either way you're going to be talking to something externally.
