Material / Node Editor

Hi! I wrote a material system based on a shader tree and I want to add a visual editor to create the shader trees. Basically it should work like the Quartz Composer or a Database Relationship Editor (like in Access or the SQL Server Management Studio): The editor should display the shaders as nodes and the connections between the nodes as lines. The user should be able to add, delete and move both of them. The hardest part would be to write an automatic routing algorithm which computes an initial version of the shader tree by aligning the nodes and lines and avoiding to cross or intersect each other. Is there an algorithm that is able to draw a graph without intersecting lines? Christian
