two questions here 1) would opengl or directx be better to for games? why? 2) could someone point me to a tutorial or opengl and directx? ----------------------------------------------------------------

Neither. Use API that allows you to not care what underlying system is being used.

That's what we do in the Elemental Engine 2.

If you tie yourself to one or the other then you are not going to be very portable. If you use OpenGL, the XBOX 360 is harder, if you DirectX other platforms are harder.

1.) Your not going to get a good answer to this. Its more of an personal preference then anything. Search the forums and you will see that this question has been asked alot. It usually results in an endless battle. If you want to go cross platform, or develop for Mac OSX or some Linux/Unix variant, go OpenGL. Otherwise, pick one and learn it! :-)
