multithreading and boost interprocess

ive been writing the code for communication (shared memory) between the threads in my game engine for a few days now... i have a render and update thread... for each thread i have a copy of the game state and i send the changes between the threads each frame using a concurrent queue... which works well... but i just noticed boost interprocess which seems to do something similar... is boost interprocess something one should learn and use? even if not this seems to me such a common issue that there should be some library out there that implements such a functionality?
