OpenGL Smoke Effect with Particle System OpenGL

How do I make a smoke effect using a particle system. I am making a flight Simulator. I wanted the smoke from the back to come stright out towards the viewer. I have tried everything, any suggestions?

That depends, is the smoke entirly particles, or are you looking at bilboarded graphics controlled with a minimal particle system?

That is a relatively simple task to achieve. Simply, make a lil particle engine that renders triangle strips using plain bitmaps. Then render like 1000 of the particles, Set the lighting to full light around them, and have their colors decrease from full white, to grey, to black. Then when they are black set them back to full intensity. Hope that was somewhat helpful.
