Questions about Skin Diffusion technique in GPU Gems 3

Hello folks, There's an article in book GPU Gems 3 which goes over their technique used to produce realisitic human skin diffusion in a real-time shader. I follow some of the article, but there are some parts which I just don't understand. Is anyone here familiar with that article, or with real-time skin diffusion techniques in general? I figured I'd test the waters before writing out all my quandries =) Thanks!
