indoor/outdoor engine.., some feedback please

Hi guys Can you please give me some benchmark on the performance of the engine ? It''s an hybrid quadtree/portal rendering. I don''t have a clue on how the interpolation models behave on another computers because they are linked to the frame rate .,so i would apreciate some feedback. Hi, couldn''t you make some screenshots that one can see if he really wants to download the engine. I don''t like downloading engines that are just some tutorial stuff but more than 5MB just because of the big textures. So let''s see what you''ve made, please.

Very cool engine! had it running on my P2 400 128mb ram, ATI rage fury. Looked great, ran at decent rate.

definately playable, but a bit strange in some areas:

-square haze around particles (blending problem?)
-mip map textures are very obvoius when they change between detail levels
-the player model (gun, arm) jerks a bit weirdly (I''d almost say it ''squirms''!) problem with interpolation between key frames? (this could be a cool effect (feature) rather than a bug if you used it selectively tho.
-the walk speed is much too slow!


Overall a VERY nice looking engine, with a few minor bugs.
Looks like you''ve got all the really complex bits sorted!

I´ve got no lightning/shading,the sky doesn´t work,the weapon modell is very strange flickering and when i look into the mirror the weapon model gets very very strange ,when i look directly into it my computer crashes completely.

I have a 800Mhz AMD Duron proc with 256 Mb ram and a Geforce 1 SDR.

I tried all settings but it doesn´t work.

Read-instruction in memory failed.

(translated from Dutch..)

Thanks to everyone that tested it.,

sorry to the people that couldn''t make it run.
Some questions to them..,

This may look a stupid question, but all of you have a sound card? If there isn''t a sound card, the engine will crash.., i should have made a check, but only now i remembered it.
Do you guys get to the loading screen or not even that ?

Bruno, can you release a version without the stencil buffer? I''d love to try the demo but I don''t think it''ll work on my Voodoo3.

When i try to compile the frigin source...i also get a runntime
error




What am i doing wrong here!!

Hi

BLZBub, if you wanna run without stencil buffer, just disable the mirrors option in the config window.
I know it works with voodo3, because i user already reported back with that board.,

I got 50-70fps in 1024*768x32

I agree the walking speed is way too slow though

Other than that it''s cool and looks great!

Crashed no matter which options I used. Windows said something about accessing instructions from an invalid address or something...

Your screenshots look cool though

System:

Win2000
Athlon Thunderbird 700Mhz
128 MB RAM
GeForce 2 GTS (Leadtek)
+ some more stuff...

But there is no use in asking for it cause the
game is not open source!



BTW: There is a new exe uploaded at the site, for those of you
having problems with the engine running! NEW Feature is to enable/disable sound!

Yes, I''ve got a soundcard..
I did see some blue text when running in windowed mode but after that I''m getting that error dialog.

the engine crashing! I just disabled the sound, and everything worked nice!

It''s a shame that you won''t be listening to the music i made though....

hmmmm..that was strange!!

I am going to switch sound library and if i can connect
to the ftp server i will upload another version!!

We got over 800 downloads on the engine, but
the amount of feedback are exremely low...!!



You can do better than that!! If we are to make a killer
game we need to know how the engine works on different cards,
OS, computers, etc, etc.....

The program crashed. Didn''t matter what options I used. I saw the black screen saying "Please wait.... Loading" or something similar, and then I got the following:

Click on CANCEL to debug the program

I tried both your old and your new exe-file.

(BTW, a quite cool feature in windows, that not many people know of, is that you can press Ctrl-C when a message-box is open to copy the contents of it to the clipboard (At least it works in Win2k). Very practical in a situation such as this when the message-box appears "behind" your DX window)

waa cool screenshots and both exes of the demo give the same error as described above by others with similar problems. (even tried the sound options)
i got a celeron 300@450 geforce ddr plenty of ram and sblive and detonator 12.xx
hope you find the bug or release different exes which might have more luck.
