Which network library

Hello! I'm looking for a network library, with client/server architecture, needed for a 2D sprite shooter game, for windows and it has to be well documented, the language I'm using is C++. I'm planning to use it with SDL - maybe I should use SDL_net and problem solved, but I don't know how this is suitable for twitch games, spend a word or two on it before suggesting anything other, please. And what's with DirectPlay, i've heard it's dead, true? thank you
