HI I have set up my particle explosions and they work correctly. I now want to have a sort of light flash to accompany my explosion. So for instance, when my missile would hit an asteroid, it would generate a flash of bright light and then have the particle explosion effect. I searched around but couldn't find any hints that would explain the creation of such a light flash. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks. P.S I am not well versed with either Photoshop or Macromedia flash so simpler explanations will be appreciated.

The monitor can only display a finite (and usually narrow) range of brightness. Therefore, to simulate very bright objects, the best approach is often to darken other objects rather than try to "burn" the brightness of your bright object past the physical limits of the display.

Do a little research on the term "tone mapping", a technique commonly used with high dynamic range (HDR) images.

-or-

Do like Evil Steve suggests, if realism of the technique is good enough :)
