glutsolidsphere and textures

I read somewhere that glutSolidSphere has texture coordinates but i cant seem to texture it properly, this is how im loading the textures.
glGenTextures(1, &texture[2]); 
glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture[2]);
glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, 3, image->width, image->height, 0, GL_RGB, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, image->data);
