The way alot of people start is by downloading the SDK and looking at the tutorial applications. They are reasonably well commented, but there are only 5 to look through. Also, reading through code isn't the best but you can get a decent idea for how it works.

Actually there are around 14 tutorials in the SDK, and yes that would be a good way to go about it. Also, if you learn from the numerous DirectX9 tutorials, that will set you up well for learning 10 as the SDK tutorials can be very technical and difficult to understand for begginers.

14?

There are numerous examples, but not tutorials. The examples use DXUT which is far beyond what a beginner wants.

There are numerous books on Amazon, just search directx10 programming and you will get your results.

I remember there's an Andy Pike who has DirectX tutorials on the web. I personally read one of them and they were very nice.

Hope this helps.
