I am trying to program a MUD and wanted to know, when you start you are asked to enter a name and well I wanted to know, usually if you enter a name with numbers and/or spaces in it it's taken as invalid. How do you check the input for numbers and/or spaces, how is this done? Second question, how can I get a random number? Specificly a random number between two numbers? Edit: terribly sorry, forgot to add I program on c++. Thanks.

Both of those questions have answers that depend on what programming language you are using and possibly what libraries you are using and operating system your program is running on.
