Clipping and Magnitude of a up Vector

I'd like to ask 2 questions. 1) If I have a clip rectangle, but the geometry I want to clip against has no vertices inside it. Only an edge spreads from the top and passes thru this clip rectangle and down thru. How do I do the clipping? How do I cast the edge onto the ground plane? 2) If my Up Vector has a value of Point3(0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f) when I throw a ray from the ground, no matter how tall the geometry is, it always returns true, so that node is marked blocked, but some indoor ceilings have specific heights, but it is still walkable... How do I specify a threshold of magnitude that turns that area (such as a room) into a walkable region? Do I need to grab a computer graphics book? Which one would you recommend? I have Mathematics for 3D Game Programming & computer graphics by Eric Lengyel and 3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development written by Flether Dunn and Ian Parberry Thanks Jack
