DirectX camera problem

i have loaded a mesh and when i press W key the mesh moves forward on the z axis which means that value goes down on the z axis , but say if the camera postion z is set at 3.0f; , i can see the mesh fine so when i want the camera to follow the mesh , when the camera gets to 0.0 it changes and the view changes so i am looking from the front of the mesh , i want it so the camera keeps moving back on z axis with the mesh like you see in third person games , thanks if you can help
