Graphics needed... paid in advertising!

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm not sure if I'll be able to get any help here, but I've got nothing to lose by trying right? I'll try to put this as concisely as possible so that the uninterested can stop reading quickly. I'm releasing a 2D puzzle game on XNA Community Games, and expect it to enter peer review by the 15th (saturday). The code is about 95% done (seriously, unlike most claims like this...) and at this point the only thing I'm struggling to produce is level content. I'm a student developer with a "team" that has produced no content the whole time I churned out code :( Every level-up the puzzle game's aesthetic will change, like most good puzzle games now do. The problem is my crack team of friends has failed to produce any content yet, and with my deadline fast-approaching I decided to try this creative outlet. The terms are simple: make a skin for my puzzle game at no cost. "Why?" Is the next logical question. I'm making very few limitations on what the graphical content of this skin contains, and am expecting any interested parties to add whatever they feel compensates them into their skin (web address, picture of yourself, a personal message for the world, I don't care!) As a bare minimum I need a background image and 2 block images (there are only 2 types of block in the puzzle game), but animations are obviously more awesome. Friday at midnight I'll look at everything people have made and choose somewhere between 1-4 skins to include in the final release of the game. That's basically it. Do it for fun, recognition, a portfolio, the opportunity to have 1000s of xbox live games see YOUR artwork, or just to shamelessly advertise yourself! ACTUAL DETAILS? Ok if you're still reading you're interested enough to care about this stuff. At the end of this post is a link to a sample skin. The score, level, gravity, and multiplier images are permanent fixtures, so please watch out for this! A background should be 1280x720 pixels and blocks can be any size. The game board (the part you actually play on) is 11x11 blocks, so blocks taller than (720 / 11) or wider than (1280 / 11) will not fit on the screen! While the blocks will usually be square, this is not a limitation. Animations can also be added. Animated blocks should be submitted in the "sprite sheet" style i.e. as a grid (or single row/column) of images of the same size. Animated backgrounds should be implemented as a static background image and any number of smaller animations to draw on top of the background (let me know how you want these displayed graphically or through a list of pixel locations) I am willing to assemble these art assets into my game, as the code I have in place will make this trivial. You will retain all rights to your image, only permitting me a single use in this title. I will be completely flexible about images submitted as long as I can figure out what the intended layout of the skin is. I must require images to be in .png format however. XNA Community Games (if you haven't heard of it, look it up!) is launching with the "new xbox experience" on Nov. 19. Because any game submitted must pass peer review first, I'm trying to get the game on Community Games by Sat Nov 15. While I'm not sure if the game will make it as a launch title, I'm hoping it can get put up as quickly as possible. The game will be available for the over 7-million active xbox live users to try and buy. I cannot guarantee that the skins submitted will be available on the trial mode or just the paid version, this will be determined at the last minute depending on what final skin order we like the most. A sample of what the heck I'm talking about can be seen at (I haven't updated this site in a while, just using it to host an image...): http://www.omegagames.net/puzzleimg.png In the image you can see the general overview of what I need: a background, some blocks, and animations on anything you care to do them on. Anyone who is this far along, please send artwork to omegagames[a.t]gmail.com and please post any questions in the topic. I'm sorry the timeframe is so short, I didn't think of even posting here until an hour ago :P Thanks for your time!

Hmm, that seems most unfortunate (well not necessarily for the artist you happen to find i suppose). Traditionally when looking for help you'd post in the Help Wanted section (follow the template!), although you may not find an artist as easily around here on GD.Net. You can however check the various Art-Oriented sites in my signature below where your more likely to pick someone up, and if nothing else it improves your odds.

In any event, Good Luck with your project.
