a shader's place?

hey, i'm new to shaders, and i'm curious, should every object carry it's own effect object, setting it's effect when it's rendered? or should there be a global effect file with all the techniques?

I'm not too familiar with the FX framework (which I assume you meant when you said effects file), but I'm fairly certain you can do either.

Personally I would have everything in separate files, or at least group shaders logically into files. This makes shaders easier to access (instead of sifting through one big file) and easier to read.

It's similar to breaking up your code into c/cpp files. You wouldn't put all your code into one file (unless it was a small app perhaps).
