winsock waiting for data

Hello, i've started my little client server test application. Some time ago I read that winsock by default has set some kind of waiting for data before sending. This supposedly can cause lags, since if the application sends small parts of information, winsock apperantly waits a few miliseconds for more. Is that true? How can i disable it? Sorry if this may sound vague, but i read about it so long ago, i don't remember any specifics. And now i can't even find anything about it anymore. (that was for TCP i think, but i suppose it wasn't just switching to UDP or something). Thanks.
