I have seen level editors where you have the ability to paint the terrain texture directly on the terrain with various brushes. How is this done? Is there a name for this technique so i know what to search for? Anyone know a good tutorial on it or can explain in a simple way how it would be done? If my description is unclear, see 1:50 on this video:

Most people use alphamaps to blend their textures (texture splatting).
So you could use "picking" to get the intersection point of your cursor and the terrain. Once you got it you can transform the world coordinates to texture coordinates so that you know where to change the alphamap.
This results in changing the visible texture at that point.
