Hi, I'm a developer wrking on web applications using C# and dotNet, but am proficient in C++ and some other languages as well. I've had an interest in computer games and game programming from a young age, and have researched in an adhoc manner about this field. My question stems from the doubt as to whether one should have an advanced mathematical background to make use of the game programming SDK's out there. if not( or if so!), what kind of math do you really need? I'm following the book "Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX9.0c A Shader Approach" by Frank D. Luna, and it covers quite a bit of math in the first few chapters. The topics range from vectors to matrices, to geometrical transformations. Is this the limit for games programming, or is there more math to be learnt if one has to develop a decent game?

To develop a simple game, you usually won't need more than elementary linear algebra, elementary calculus and some 2D geometry (sometimes 3D). And, of course, discrete mathematics are always useful in software development.

To develop original or very complex games, advanced algebra (linear or otherwise), advanced calculus, topology and probability are all interesting.

Hm.. Should look into those topics.. Would anyone be knowing any good websites that give you a good math primer for gaming? For instance, in the book i'm following, the explanations on linear and affine transformations are a bit hard to follow.. would there be a website or resource that could give a sort of beginners version? Thanks :)
