so im almost done with my first game...well not really but its getting close its a basic space shooter one question though...is there a more "proffessional" way of saving the scores than outputing them to a text file that anyone could edit?

You could write them out in binary form - this will be more compact for numeric data and the casual user won't understand the format. Of course, that won't stop everybody from tinkering with it, but then again, if someone's changing his own highscores, isn't that just his problem? :)

1) binary format.

2) you can try to save game data based on profiles, ie

My Documents/
.
.
One Good Game/
.
.
Player 1/
SavedFile.MYFormat

3) saved the whole game in 1 huge binary file. instead of

level.format, weapon.format, player.format, quest.format

to something like

time/data-of-saved.format
