I'm new to RPG making. I've made basic games with game maker and Byond but i really want to make an RPG. Any good programs to do so with?

RPG Maker XP, perhaps? Alternatively, modding existing RPGs like Oblivion. Assuming you're looking strictly for game-creation programs versus learning to program them on your own (in which case I'd recommend taking a stab at learning Python).

I haven't touched BASIC for a long time but I would suggest darkBASIC Classic or Pro.

However like jpetrie stated, try python, you can use pygame for it.

Like jpetrie says try Python. it is very easy to learn and is sutable to make an rpg in.I am in the process of making a full text rpg dungeon in it. It works very well. just a suggestion.

if you want graphics I think pygame looks good.

Unlike others I find this rather strange. Other than RPG Maker XP or VX which is really easy but a bit limited in a few ways, Game Maker which is also not hard and BYOND which is a great easy language for 2D game design, what else?

If you want to actualy program and already have experience on BYOND stick with it and make your RPG on it, theres really nothing easier than that on the programming side of things. I can almost garantee this 100%. Then you could jump to Python+Pygame(or Pyglet) or something like C#+XNA Framework.

If you want to mainly design RPGs in a more visual manner theres Game Maker and RPG Maker XP or RPG Maker VX. BYOND is also good at this, you just code everything else, unlike GM and RPGM that you can make somethign withought ever touching code.

Give us more info on yourself and future goals. If you want more detailed help.
