Superstar,

You can find information about selecting a device, enumerating adapter modes, and determining hardware support Here.

In specific, you're looking for IDirect3D9::GetDeviceCaps().

The GetDeviceCaps method takes as a parameter a D3DCAPS9* pointer, which it fills in for you. That structure contains something like 50 different properties and limitations of the device you're working with.

Cheers and Good Luck!

If you just need to view the information, you can use the D3D Caps Viewer that comes with the DirectX SDK.
