Exporting in Maya - Layered Textures

I have a mesh with multiple textures being applied in the hypershade. As of right now, using a polygon iterator, I am exporting all of the vertices, normals, and unique vertices of a polygon. I am also exporting a single set of texture coordinates. I need get and export the names of all of the textures being applied in the hypershade. I also need to export the texture coordinates for each of these textures. However, I have no idea where to begin. I've been sifting through piles of Maya API information, as well as google and various forums to no avail. If anyone can offer any help, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you!
