DirectInput, eMachine, and a Quirky Keyboard

I've got a tester of my online RPG whose keyboard seems to be constantly returning that DIK_LEFT is held down, regardless of what happens. This is a, er, bad problem since they type backwards as such, and can't control the movement of their character via keyboard correctly. Any idea what might be causing this? Do they just need to reinstall DirectX? Get a new version of their keyboard(?) drivers? Was this a problem that DX 7a fixed? It's very strange, any ideas? Or am I doing something wrong with DirectInput...this is the only person this occurs to...

I don't know what to say. We mostly tested JAKKAL with DX6.1 and DX7 drivers. Now I just installed DX7a and noticed that the DirectInput device fails to be created, however, the game still functions properly. To put it mildly, I'm about fed up with the inconsistancies of DX across builds. JAKKAL was built with the DX6.1 SDK, why DX7a isn't totally backwards compatible, I can't tell ya.
