Hi there. Off the top of my head, the Win32 API lets you open a file in such a way that any other thread or process trying to open it will block whereas *NIX likes to allow read sharing. In PHP, how do I open a file in a non-shared manner? I don't want the other thread's open call to fail with some kind of access denied error, I just want the requests to be queued.

Queued in what way - do you want individual reads to be queued, or do you want opening to be queued? Either one is intensely problematic, from an OS point of view.
