hi, I have created a simple text based program in linux, which doesn't execute on windows? it's all in nothing but plain, super basic C, is there anything you have to do to them i'm not aware of? The exact same code would compile in any windows c compiler for example. thanks in advance

Well, you would need to recompile it for Windows. The Linux binary executable format is different than the Windows executable format.

Yes, gcc can be used as a cross compiler. Fortunately, there is a mingw backport to Linux, called "mingw-gcc" or similar. If you are on Debian, lookup your repositories for that name; search for mingw in particular and you'll see more mingw stuff.
