Console Problems

Hey I''ve been working on a quake style console for my engine and I have one problem. When it reads keyboard input the timing is messed up making it very hard to type (ie. you hit ''a'' and you get aaaaaaa). I was wonder what the average delay time in milliseconds is between reading key presses or is there a better technique for reading keyboard input into a console?

You could remember what key was hit last time, and not generate another character if the same letter is held down.

I think typically delays are around 200ms

)if only i could spell(
