I am looking for some informed advice on how to relate instances in a data driven rules engine I'm putting together. I have a Race class that gets instantiated with different data, obviously pertaining to differrences between races. Creatures, my basic 'unit' class need to hold a reference to what Race they are. I've come up against a snag in design as im not sure if I should be keeping multiple instances of the race and saving it along with creatures when the time comes to save (redundant)...Or if I should come up with a surrogate method to re associate Creatures with Races. I am trying to best anticipate how it would impact things like saving and loading as object references dont persist so well... I'm sure there are many people here who might be able to give some insight. I enjoy complicated rules systems and want to ensure i follow the best practices in lacing it all up! Thanks!
