3D Modelers, MacOS X, and MacOS Classic

I have a question about using a 3D Modeler in MacOS Classic. Ok, I am developing my own game engine, and when I get either my Ti PowerBook G4 or PowerMac G5 next year, I''ll port my game engine code to MacOS X. This is my question. Say you have LightWave or any other 3D Modeler/Animation software running under MacOS Classic. Also, using LightWave as an example, say I wrote code to load a .lwo file into my game engine under MacOS X. Would I be able to use my loader to load a .lwo file created with a MacOS Classic version of Lightwave, or would I have to use an MacOS X verion of Lightwave since the two operating systems are different? What I am basically asking is whether file formats for a 3D Modeler or any other application that is both coded for MacOS Classic and MacOS X are compatible. Please answer.
