Give YOUR book suggestion!
Hi, im also from a web developer list. There is a thread there where everyone gives a suggestion of a good book you have read.
And the list is nice nowadays.
I didnt see any threads like this here, besides the best article thread. I saw the books section, but user base updating is much more efficient.
So the idea is, give a suggestion of a good book that helped you somehow on game programming. It can be not only about game development, but also about patterns, network programming or whatever. If someway its good and helped you on game programming, just give the suggestion and give a little brief why.
Ok, here is mine, I just finished reading it:
"Introduction to DirectX 9: A Shaders Approach" by Frank D. Luna.
The D3D 10 version of this book is already out, but I read the D3D9 version. Its an excellent book just about Direct3D, it doesnt say nothing about DirectSound, DirectPlay etc... But if you are looking to learn D3D I think this is the best reference. REALLY EXCELENT.
I Hope this works, so I can get good references here too and stop buying some shits at amazon.. Cause i recently noticed that amazon reviews sometimes suck.. and sometimes they are useful...
Please try to stick with "new" books, suggesting a very good book DirectX 5 related is not that helpful...
I'm reading a (slightly outdated) C++ programming book called "SAMS Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days". It's really quite good. I need a couple "pointers" on pointers, though. :B

C++ Primer Plus walks you through pretty much everything you need to know about C++ and the std library.

I second that! It's one of the best books you can get when starting out. It's never dry and boring like a lot of other books. You work step by step with examples and then you test your skills after each chapter.
