Matrix casting

Ive been working on my own math library lately, not for the purpose of reinventing the wheel, but for a better understanding of the maths. And when passing my objects such as my matrix type (Matrix44), i do this
Matrix44 ViewProj;

mFX->SetMatrix(mhWVP, (D3DXMATRIX*)&ViewProj);

Is there a better way? There are a few methods i can see, such as
mFX->SetFloatArray(mhWVP,&ViewProj.mv, 16);
//or
mFX->SetRawValue
