Guys, I'm all googled-out. D: Why is it that no one has taken approach in creating a website such as http://www.aeriagames.com A website with selected Korean games, translated in english / american. Their offices are in San Jose.. along with gpotato and many more enterprises of such nature. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's easy money to be made in this no? I've been researching about it, looking into it thoroughly (I'm only 19 years old and yes, I am a girl). Whats your input on this?

There are plenty of free MMOs this side of the Pacific. Dofus, Dungeon Runners (NCSoft) and the titles from Acclaim all follow roughly the same pattern.

Any product must be adapted to the market, if not redesigned from scratch. And often, language translation is a tiny piece of of the equation. Video games are no exception. What caters to the Korean market may or may not suit a North-American market.

Example: When Walmart opened a store in the Caribbeans, they offered the same product lineup as their 'average' store in the US, including snow plows. Doh!!

I'm confused. Someone did this. So how can you say nobody has done this?

Easy! First, have a bunch of money. Then fly to South Korea. Then line up meetings with all the game companies there. Go through all their products that they haven't already licensed for your market. Negotiate deals. Localize. And there you go. Easy!

So what is it you're trying to find out exactly?

Yes but I mean that have originated / been created IN Montreal / Quebec.
What would be the point of going to Korea to rip-off their games if we have as talented folks / developers here who could build games from scratch!

What I mean is, why hasn't anybody kick-started a website / company similar to that of NCony, Gpotatoe and AGE.

Or do you think a Korean or American company such as the above would finance someone with business plans of somewhat-partnership. This person would open their own say AGE office in Quebec where it'd become the french version for world-wide french speaking folks.

When publishers open studios in Montreal, language is NOT their primary motivation. It's the talent pool, government money, and easy reach to the US market they are after (NAFTA, remember?). Studios have their own in-house translators; and publishers can fill in that role or it can be contracted out if they don't.

Dream Pod 9 (www.dp9.com)
Alchemic Dream (www.alchemicdream.net / www.playmmo.com)

I'm sure there are others. I just don't have a list handy.

I suggest you attend the next IGDA meeting. (http://www.igda.org/montreal). There is one coming up early February. You'll meet all the people from Ubi, EA, EIDOS, etc and be in a position to ask your business-oriented questions more directly (and in french).

And if you can, try to hook up with Jean-Francois William. You can't miss him; he will likely be the only guy wearing a cowboy hat... (http://www.jfwilliam.com/index.cfm/2,0,1473,8178,0,334,html)

Hope this helps.
