DirectX lighting

I am trying to visualize a point cloud with a 3D model (position + normals) and light the environment at the same time (I define a material for the 3D model). Though the 3d model appears as black and instead the pointcloud gets colored!!!. Does anyone know what may be going wrong? I have checked the normals and all are fine.
