Communicating with hardware

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but can someone point me in the right direction of having a c++ app communicate with hardware? For example having an electronic switch hooked up to your computer (or multiple switches) That communicates with the app. The app has the ability to turn the switches on or off. The app would receive an input from one circuit being completed, and then would turn off another, or vice versa. I don't even know where to begin looking. Thanks guys.

Another option is something like the Silicon Labs CP210x USB / Serial dongle.
You should be able to find it on Google.

They have development boards, drivers, manuals etc.
I worked with them for about a year and a half with a project that needed to communicate with some custom hardware.

You can breadboard simple circuits with it, and it does mean that you have some margin of protection rather than just hanging wires off the back of your PC..

There is source for talking to the drivers available online, and in the dev kit. C++ both Mac and PC.
